Obituary

William A. Mounts died peacefully on June 27, 2019, at his home in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. He was born April 1, 1926, in Pike County, Kentucky, the second child of Hattie and Ashby Mounts. He graduated from Phelps High School in December 1943, also in Pike County, Kentucky. He entered the United States Navy in January 1944 and served as an Electrician's Mate Third class until his Honorable Discharge in May 1946.

Mr. Mounts received a BA from Johnson Bible College, Knoxville, Tennessee in May 1959. He was an ordained minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He touched the lives of many, ministering in churches throughout Georgia, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Locally, he served at Glensboro Christian Church, Alton Christian Church, and Salvisa Christian Church.

Mr. Mounts received his BS in Education from Georgia Southern in June 1962. He received his Master of Education from the University of Georgia in June 1967. Mr. Mounts influenced many students in a long teaching and counseling career at Anderson Junior High and then Anderson County High, retiring June 1986.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hattie and Ashby Mounts; his sister, Inis Yates; his wife, Bernadine Hall Mounts; and his son-in-law, Lance Scott Churchman.

He is survived by his daughters, Laura Mounts Reifschlager and Mary Churchman; and son-in-law, Kenneth L. Reifschlager. He delighted in his six grandchildren, Reid Austin Reifschlager, Daniel Lance Churchman, Sarah Marie Churchman, Elizabeth Ann Churchman, Shani Reifschlager Cress, and Lori Lee Reifschlager, all in Texas.

Mr. Mounts loved being outdoors, and one of his greatest passions was gardening and working on his property. His proudest accomplishment was building his home of 46 years. He continued to be an avid student of the Bible and literature throughout his life. His daughters fondly remember riding bikes together with him on Timber Creek Road, and he always enjoyed a good John Wayne movie.  He considered preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ his greatest honor in life.

A private family only memorial service will be held. The arrangements have be entrusted to the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be sent to Bluegrass Hospice Care, 643 Teton Trail, Frankfort, KY 40601; Johnson University, c/o Advancement, 7900 Johnson Dr., Knoxville, TN 37998, or Patrick Henry College, 10 Patrick Henry Circle, Purcellville, VA 20132.
