William Morgan Zopff, Jr. Funeral Service Broadcast

William (Bill) Morgan Zopff, Jr., of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky went home to our Lord and Savior on Sunday October 15, 2023.  He was known to many family, friends, and the community as "BZ".  Bill was among the first members of Hope Community Church.

Bill was born to William Morgan Zopff and Francis Tatge on November 17, 1936 in Cook County, Illinois.  He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Glenda Yocum Zopff; sister Marianna Miller of Cambridge, Ontario; sons William (Teresa), David (Shannon), Daniel (Randa) and Andrew (Amy); grandchildren Samantha Zopff-Mosely (Gregg), Elizabeth McQuinn (Travis), Will Zopff (Alyssa), Luke Zopff, Levi Zopff, Drew Zopff, Holland Zopff, Matthew Lentz (Amber), Joshua Lentz, and Catie Prell.  Bill was also blessed to enjoy seven great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his sisters Frances Poth and Patricia Reuter.

Bill grew up on a farm with his father, stepmother Ellen, and sisters in northern Illinois. He loved farm life, especially hunting and trapping, and sometimes skipped school to combine grain.  After his father died in an accident, Bill attended and graduated from Kentucky Military Institute (KMI) in Louisville, Kentucky.  Bill played football at KMI and the University of Illinois before joining the Army, where he served on five continents as a member of the 11th Airborne Group at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.  When he left the Army, Bill joined the Kentucky State Police as a trooper in 1958.  After 15 years as a trooper, Bill became a detective in the KSP Auto Theft division.

Bill retired from the Kentucky State Police in 1991 after 32 years of service. Aside from gardening and coffee time, Bill was an avid outdoorsman and took adventurous fishing and hunting trips with friends and sons to the western mountains, Alaska and Canada.  Bill and Glenda enjoyed many trips around the country with grandchildren and their camper, and spent many winters with friends at Lake Okeechobee, Florida. BZ never met a stranger, and his friends will attest that his detailed stories were as entertaining as they were long.

Visitation will be held from 11 am – 2 pm Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023 followed by the service at 2:00 PM Thursday at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home. Dr. Jeff Eaton will officiate the service.  Bill will be laid to rest in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery with honors provided by the Kentucky State Police Honor Guard.
