William Everett Akins, Sr., 84, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. Born March 23, 1934 in Anderson County, KY, William was the son of the late Marion Wallace Akins and Beulah Evelyn Wooldridge Akins.

Along with his wife and parents, William was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Hatfield; two siblings, Florence Goodlett and Anna Wiley and a grandson, William Kevin Hatfield.

William was a retired Lieutenant of the United States Navy. He received the WWII Occupation Metal, Korean National Defense Metal, and the Stephen Prior Patterson Award for leadership. He was a member of Ninevah Christian Church where he taught Sunday School. He enjoyed fishing, rabbit hunting, restoring cars, and making furniture.

William is survived by his son, William Everett Akins, Jr. of Lawrenceburg; his daughters, Cynthia Ann Akins of Versailles and Dora Lynn (Allen) Paige of Frankfort; seven grandchildren, Jason (Mary) Akins, William Scott (Melanie) Akins, Joe (Amanda) Hatfield, Chris (Heather) Akins, Jeremy (Joanna) Vaughn, Brian (Casey) Vaughn and Christa Penwell; stepgrandson, Ray Penwell; 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 17 ^th beginning at 1:00 PM at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home. Chris Akins will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will held on Tuesday prior to the service from 10 AM – 1 PM.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Akins, William Scott Akins, Joe Hatfield, Chris Akins, Jeremy Vaughn, Brian Vaughn, with Christa Penwell serving as flower bearer. Honorary bearer will be the late William Kevin Hatfield.
