Virgil A. Lunsford, 96, loving Christian husband of 76 years to Leoda Short Lunsford, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, September 11, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Born May 19, 1920 in Jackson County, KY, Virgil was the son of the late Charlie D. and Maudie Templeton Lunsford.

Including his parents, Virgil was predeceased by two sons, Kenneth and Harley Darrell Lunsford; two granddaughters, Beverly Delaney and Lynn Lewis; a sister, Opal Sims; a sister, Fairy Lunsford; and two brothers, Hansford and Jim Lunsford.

A master of many trades, Virgil worked as a farmer, mechanic, and as a contractor. He assisted in the building of the Castle Post in Versailles. His hobbies included coon hunting, reading his Bible, setting on his porch talking to friends, and observing the activities on his street.

Along with his wife Leoda, he is survived by four children, Clyde Lunsford (wife Diane) of Versailles, Ruby J. Brown of Richmond, Ruth Carter (husband Donnie) of Lawrenceburg, and Ricky Lunsford (wife Nancy) of Lawrenceburg; 25 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; a sister Rosezella Spencer of Lexington; and a half-sister, Geneva Short of Virginia.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 15th beginning at 12:00 (noon) at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home. Virgil's son-in-law Pastor Don Carter will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Frankfort. Visitation will be 5 – 8 PM Wednesday.

Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Lunsford, Kenneth Lunsford, Jr., Mike Carter, Virgil Wesley Lunsford, Brian Lunsford, Bobby Coomer, John Coulter, and Jesse Gritton. Honorary bearers will be Jesse Short and Bennie Higgs.
