Thelma Franklin Bruce, 79, of Lawrenceburg, wife of Wendell Bruce, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Spring Arbor of Frankfort.

Born July 1, 1946, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Johnny Floyd Franklin and Nannie Ethel Gregory Franklin.

Thelma retired from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, but her life's work extended far beyond her career. She was a devoted Christian whose faith guided her daily life and was a member of Sand Spring Baptist Church. She faithfully served in many roles at church, including teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and spent many years using her decorating talents to prepare the sanctuary with beautiful flower arrangements. She found joy in serving others and supporting her church communities.

Above all, Thelma was devoted to her family. She had a special gift for making each person feel deeply loved and uniquely important. Her home was the center of family life, especially during holidays and gatherings. Easter, Christmas, and Thanksgiving were especially meaningful to her, as she lovingly prepared meals and created traditions that brought everyone together. She was an excellent cook, and her family meals were more than just food—they were an expression of her love, care, and generosity.

She delighted in her grandchildren and made every holiday magical for them. Her Easter egg hunts became treasured traditions, filled with joy, laughter, and thoughtful details that reflected her love for each child. She made the grandchildren and their friends feel welcome, and she was everyone's "Nana."

Thelma also cherished the time she spent with her siblings, especially her sisters, sharing a lifelong bond filled with love, laughter, and support.

In addition to her husband, Wendell, with whom she shared 40 years and 9 months of marriage, she is survived by her children: Diana (Jeff) Koonce of Lexington, Steve (Jennifer) Smith of Shelbyville, Sheila (Harry) Rose, Judy (Eddie) Russell, and Wendy (Johnny) Shouse, all of Lawrenceburg; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Anna Belle Glass of Mt. Eden, Jean (Larry) Gaines of California, and Sherri Hahn of Lawrenceburg; two sisters-in-law, Francine Franklin and Donna Franklin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Sand Spring Baptist Church, 1616 Harrodsburg Road, Lawrenceburg. Bro. Garrett Franklin, Dr. Mike Hamrick, and Bro. Bryan Proctor will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 PM Saturday at the church, prior to the service.

Thelma's cremated remains will be interred in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Serving as honorary bearers will be her grandsons: Joe Koonce, Jay Smith, Bruce Russell, Jake Russell, Lyndon Cornish, Lincoln Shouse, Justin Dearinger, Darion Dearinger, and Max Royse.
