Funeral Service Broadcast for Sylvia Darlene Coffey

Sylvia Darlene Ward Coffey, age 74, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025, at her home in Lawrenceburg, KY. She was born in Louisville, KY, on August 4, 1950, to the late Jesse Wilby Ward and Layla Pearl Cummins Ward.

Darlene dedicated her career to serving the community as a school bus monitor with the Anderson County Board of Education until her retirement. A woman of deep faith, she was a devoted member of Grace Fellowship in Midway, KY. Her Christian faith guided every aspect of her life, and she was known by those who loved her as a steadfast prayer warrior who found daily strength and joy in reading her Bible. Music was one of Darlene's passions, whether she was singing or playing the guitar or tambourine. Darlene also enjoyed spending time in her garden and exploring shops for antiques—always finding beauty in the past and present. Above all, Darlene cherished her family. She found her greatest happiness in the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Along with her parents, Darlene was preceded in death by her first husband, George Clifton Rice, a brother, Stevie Ward, and a sister, Linda Blacketer.

Darlene is survived by a husband, Paul Coffey; children, Michael Rice, Sandra Dearinger (Justin), Denise Bullock (Matt), and Michael Rice, Jr.; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; sisters, Wanda Morrow, Joyce Warford, Edith Perry, and Brenda Ward; brothers, Jesse Ward and Delbert Ward.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday, May 19, 2025, at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Pastor Teresa Howerton and Charlie Blacketer officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Monday at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Darion Dearinger, Matt Bullock, Travis Boyd, Charlie Blacketer, William Goodlett, and Michael Rice, Jr. Serving as an honorary bearer is DeLise Graham- Hill.
