Sylvia Tandy Allender, 91, of Lawrenceburg, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2015 at her home. She was the widow of Elmo Raymond Allender and was born Feb. 17, 1924 in Madison County, KY, the daughter of the late William Edgar and Dora Kathine McDaniel Tandy.

Mrs. Allender worked along with her husband in their business The Furniture Clinic in Lexington. She was a current member of the Sand Spring Baptist Church and the Dorcus Sunday School Class. She and her husband were former members of the Salvisa Baptist Church, Grace Baptist Church, and Hillcrest Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school for more than 60 years, a leader with GA's and WMU, sang in the Swingin Saints and attended Athletic Angels. She went on three mission trips to build churches and traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, and all over the United States. She was also a former member of the Homemakers Fox Creek Circle and enjoyed reading, sewing, and gardening. Even though she was declared legally blind she still made crib quilts for the Galilean Ministries.

Mrs. Allender is survived by her daughter, Addrene "Babe" Lane of Lawrenceburg; two step children, Wanda (Jack) Sabo of Lexington, and Wayne W. Allender of Harrodsburg; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; a step brother and a step sister; nieces and nephews, Carol Moynahan of Lexington, Ira Procter of GA, Bill Witt of AZ, and Pat McKiney of Lexington and numerous other nieces and nephews in Bardstown.

Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Don Lane; two step children, Ethelbert Allender and Emma Caruthers; and six step brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday, August 19th at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Hamrick officiating. Burial will follow in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens, Lexington, KY. Visitation will be 5 – 8 Tuesday.
