Stella Carter Burgin, 97, of Frankfort, formerly of Lawrenceburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, November 29, after a brief stay at the Masonic Home of Shelbyville.

Stella Elizabeth Carter Burgin was born July 19, 1924 in Lawrenceburg to the late Willis Herford (W.H.) Carter and Bessie Estella Gibson Carter.  Stella was a 1943 graduate of Kavanaugh High School in Lawrenceburg.  After high school she attended Bryant Stratton Business School in Louisville, Kentucky.  She married Ambrose W. Burgin in 1945 and had four children.  She worked various jobs including Anderson County Farm Bureau but spent a number of years working for Edwards Sausage Company.

As a member of Sand Spring  Baptist Church, Stella became a part of the Swingin` Saints and enjoyed their many concerts and outings.  After moving from Lawrenceburg to the Cottages of Frankfort in 2003, she joined Flying Solos and enjoyed their many activities and outings.  Stella enjoyed crocheting, needlework, cross stitch, working puzzles and playing cards with the ladies.  A highlight of Stella's life was visiting the Holy Land in May 1984 with a group from Memorial Baptist Church in Frankfort.

In addition to her parents, Stella is preceded in death by husband Ambrose W. Burgin in 1981;   sisters Louise Short and Sarah Cornish;  brothers Gareld, Kenneth and James Carter;  and son-in-law Bill Parrent.

Stella is survived by her four children, Sharon Parrent, Frankfort, Steve Burgin (Christy), Lawrenceburg, Kela Simpson (Rodney), Frankfort and Kevin Burgin (Amy), Lawrenceburg;  9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., on Thursday, December 2, at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home, Lawrenceburg, followed by burial at Lawrenceburg Cemetery.  A gathering of family and friends will begin at 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service.  Dr. Mike Hamrick will officiate.

Casket Bearers will be grandchildren, Stephen Bradley Burgin, Eric Simpson, Landon Burgin and great grandchildren, Nathanael Sangster, Carson Tuggle and Logan Mays.

In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial contribution in Stella's memory to Sand Spring Baptist Church.

The family expresses their sincere and deep appreciation to Clarissa Ashcom, Stella's caregiver for the past two years, for the love, devotion, compassion and support she provided.
