Silas Andrew Burkhead, 95, of Lancaster, KY formerly of Anderson County, KY passed away Friday, Sept. 26, 2014 in Lancaster. He was the husband of the late Hallie Ann Goodlett Burkhead and son of the late Omar and Bessie May Hatchett Burkhead.
Born Aug. 30, 1919 in Washington County, KY, he worked as a farmer, co-owner of Burkhead Brothers Furniture, and with I.B.M. A member of the Mount Mariah Baptist Church and the men's Sunday school class, he promoted missions within the church and supported the youth mission trips.
Mr. Burkhead is survived by a daughter, Mamie May (Ralph) Richardson of Shelbyville; three sons, James Omar "J.O." (Judy) Burkhead of Lancaster, Danny Dale Burkhead of Georgetown, and Herbert Alan (Ann) Burkhead of Georgetown, TX; 10 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 11 step great grandchildren; a brother-in-law Wallace Sanders; and a sister-in-law Virginia Burkhead.
Along with his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son Gordon Andrew Burkhead; a daughter-in-law, Judy Carol Burkhead; a sister, Frances Katherine Sanders; two brothers, Joe Riley Burkhead and Willis Edwin Burkhead.
Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday, Oct. 1st at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Conway and Bro. Brian Burkhead officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 – 8 pm Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Tony Jury, John, Jamie, and Matthew Burkhead, Randal Richardson, Bobby Nelson, and Chris Rogers. Honorary bearers will be John, Denise, Jeannie, and Justin Burkhead, Julie Ortman, Kristy Jury, Amy Nelson, Nana Rogers, Karista and Ralph Douglas Richardson, Greg and Troy Smith.
