Funeral Service Broadcast for Sherry Simpson

Sherry Vontella Jones Simpson, 58, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital following a courageous fight with terminal cancer. Born in Versailles on April 4, 1965, Sherry was the daughter of the late Howard Luther Jones of Owenton and Vonda Carolyn Akins Ginger of Lawrenceburg.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray Allen Elliott (married 1983-2002); her second husband, Barry Dean Simpson (married 2003-2022); a brother, Tony Waylon Phillips, a nephew, Cody Barrett Rucker; and a niece, Chasity Hope Phillips.

A lifelong resident of Lawrenceburg, Sherry attended Anderson County High School. She worked many years as an embroiderer for Fruit of Loom before transitioning to a full-time homemaker. Sherry was an avid reader who loved getting lost in a good mystery, crime, or thriller novels. She also enjoyed watching, comparing, and analyzing films from the horror genre. Sherry was a huge UK men's basketball fanatic and did not shy away from defending her boys in blue. Sherry was best known for the endless love that she had for her children, her infectious laugh, and the Christ-like kindness she bestowed upon anyone who crossed her path.

Sherry is survived by six sons, Dr. Joshua (Nathan) Elliott of Cincinnati, OH, Anthony Simpson, Vincent Elliott, Nicholas Elliott, Levi Simpson, and Lucas Simpson all of Lawrenceburg; a daughter, Brittany (Elliott) Lotz of Lawrenceburg; two grandchildren, Taryn Simpson and Marcus Lotz; two sisters, Scarlet (Tim) Rucker and Shona (Mike) Hibbs both of Lawrenceburg; a mother-in-law, Ann Buntain Simpson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday, April 5, 2024, at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Bro. Charlie Blacketer officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hebron Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5 – 8 PM Thursday and after 9:00 AM until the time of service on Friday.

Casket bearers will be Dr. Joshua Elliott, Anthony Simpson, Vincent Elliott, Nicholas Elliott, Jonathon Rucker, and David Phillips. Honorary bearers will be Brittany Lotz, Levi Simpson, and Lucas Simpson.
