Robert Lee Spencer III, 85, of Waddy, passed away Monday, December 22, 2025 at Hosparus Health in Louisville.

A 1958 graduate of Waddy High School, Bob had a 38-year career with Square D in Lexington in various capacities before retiring as a Machinery Buyer/Facilities Engineer in 2001. He was a deacon at North View Baptist Church in Lexington and an active, dedicated member of Waddy Baptist Church at his passing.

Bob was known throughout the region for contributions to fast-pitch softball. His 35-year pitching prowess yielded state championships for his teams and individual achievements. At his 1988 induction into the Kentucky Softball Hall of Fame, his plaque read "…There has never been a pitcher in Kentucky to come close to his record." Bob also self-published "A History of Kentucky Fast-Pitch Softball."

A Kentucky Colonel, Bob was a past member and President of the Waddy Ruritan Club and chaired the Waddy Centennial celebration, Waddy Baptist Church's Centennial and organized several Waddy High School class reunions. In retirement, he was an avid photographer, reader and genealogist.

The son of the late Robert Lee Jr. and Lillian Hedden Spencer, Bob was married to the "love of his life", Doris, for nearly 51 years before her passing in 2017. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his brother, William Davis and a son, Robert Lee Spencer IV.

Bob leaves to cherish his memory his son, Matthew Spencer (Tommy) of Columbus, NC, sister-in-law Ann Davis of Louisville, nieces Susan Davis of Louisville and Diane McIntosh of Shelbyville. He is also survived by devoted cousin Lee Gentry (Martha) of Harrodsburg who greatly assisted with Bob's care in his last months, cousin Spencer Bentley of Haverhill, Ohio and special friend, Juanita Jones of Pleasureville.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 27th from 10am to 1pm at Waddy Baptist Church with funeral service to follow. Interment afterwards in the family plot in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
