Funeral Service Broadcast for Richard "Dick" Hastede

Richard George Hastede, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Lawrenceburg, KY surrounded by family on Monday, April 7th, 2025, after a heroic battle with cancer.

Richard "Dick" was born June 18th, 1934 in Albany, NY to Albert and Estella Hastede. He was a long-time resident of Cold Springs, NY. Richard married his sweetheart, Nancy Lee Russell Hastede on July 15, 1956 in Millbrook, NY. They resided and raised their family in Nelsonville, NY. They were happily married for 65 years until her death in 2021. He was a dedicated engineer for IBM for 40 years.

Richard was predeceased by his brother, Albert Hastede and great granddaughter, Natalee Hytinen.

Richard is survived by a daughter, Alice Stewart (Patrick) of Lawrenceburg, KY; a daughter Donna Bosco (Ralph) of Poughkeepsie, NY; and a son, William Hastede (Joseph) of Atlantic Beach, FL.

Richard will be missed by his four grandchildren, Catherine O'Connell (James) of Poughkeepsie, NY; Ralph Bosco (Christine) of Hendersonville, TN; Melissa Sams (Jay) of Lawrenceburg, KY; Matthew Bosco (Erin) of Colonie, NY and seven great-grandchildren, Christian Hytinen, Audrey O'Connell, Aiden O'Connell, Logan Bosco, Isabel Bosco, Hunter Bosco, and Jaxton Sams. Richard is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families. It was always his great pleasure to be involved with them and share their interests.

Richard graduated from Haldane High School in Cold Spring, NY. He joined the band while in 7th grade and played the trumpet through his high school years. Richard was still in high school when approached to play taps for the Memorial Day parade and continued for 58 consecutive years. Richard was an amazing piano player. At age 10 he became the organist for the Cold Spring Baptist Church and later for St. Mary's Church. He honored the Lord with his music for more than 60 years. He also fulfilled his love for music as a member of both orchestra and marching bands.

Richard joined the Philipstown Masonic Lodge #236 in 1966. He served as organist of the Lodge, elected Master, and appointed Assistant Grand Lecturer. In addition to the masons, he was a member of the Shriners and a 33rd degree Scottish Rite. Richard considered all positions challenging and wanted to be perfect in all his ritual works. He and his wife, Nancy, enjoyed bowling for many years. Richard was involved with many activities in his hometown. He was a long-time member of the Nelsonville Fire Department, a Philipstown Boy Scout Leader, a Little League coach, and a member of the Peekskill Horseshoe League. Richard loved playing softball and was very proud of being a member of a senior softball league while well into his 80s. He loved wood making and crafts and left several mementos for loved ones.

Viewing will be held from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM Saturday, April 12, 2025, followed by service at 6:00 PM at Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home, 701 N. Main St., Lawrenceburg, KY 40342. Rev. Bart Price will be officiating. Richard will be missed by all.
