Phillip "Benton" Hanson, age 71, husband of Kim Denise Sand Hanson, passed away September 12, 2026 at his home in Versailles. Benton was born August 16, 1955 to the late Newton Felix Hanson, Jr. and LouAda Bogen Hanson in Memphis, TN.

Benton was a graduate of Mississippi State University with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He married Kim, the love of his life, May 29, 1983. They moved here in 1988 and he worked at HMB. Benton was Presbyterian and attended First Christian Church of Lawrenceburg. He liked cars, especially mustangs, which were his favorite. Benton was part of a brain cancer trial; he was the first person in the country to participate in it. His goal was to help the doctors learn more and to help others like him. He liked sports, especially watching UK or Mississippi State play, his favorite games to watch were his grandchildren's. Being a Dad and a Pa was the highlight of his life.

Along with his wife, Benton is survived by his children, Shay VanDine (Adam), Robert William Hanson (Casey), and Charles "Eric" Hanson (Ashley); a special nephew Zayden Sand; seven grandchildren, Sophie, Abbie, Tyler, Cason, Charlee, Aiden, and Emerson; two brothers, William Douglas Hanson (Linda) and Hugh Kirkwood Hanson (Heather); and two sister-in-laws.

Memorial service will be 3:00 PM, Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Wheeler officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM till time of service at 3:00 PM.

Honorary casket bearers will be Robert Hanson, Eric Hanson, Adam VanDine, William Hanson, and Hugh Hanson.
