Pearl Bennett Washington Allen was born December 14, 1937 in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky to the union of the late Lewis and Lucille Washington. Pearl was educated in the Old Lawrenceburg Colored School, Lincoln Institute, and the St. Helena Business College, where she focused in Clerical Studies. Pearl retired in Oct. 2014 following 48 years working with Bluegrass Community Action and was a member of the Pierian Woman's Club and the KY Democratic Club.

She confessed her belief in Christ at the age of seven and was baptized by Reverend Bray at the Evergreen Baptist Church of Lawrenceburg. Through the years, Pearl faithfully served as a member of the Choir, Culinary, Building Fund, Beautification, Finance, and the old Ways and Means Committees. Pearl united with the Southern Star Baptist Church of Louisville in 2012, where she faithfully served as one of the Church Mothers and as a member of the Pastor's Aid.

Pearl was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and friend. She answered God's final call on January 21st, 2015.

She is survived by her faithful husband of 52 years, Deacon Thomas, W. Allen, grandchildren, Katianna Lynn Yates, and Kalissa Allen Yates, sisters, Annie Lewis Washington, Rose Marie Cunningham, and Geneva Elizabeth Howard, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Martha Ellen and Eleanor, and her beloved daughter, Melissa.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday, Jan. 24th at the Southern Star Baptist Church, 2304 Algonquin Pkwy., Louisville, KY 40210 with Dr. Barry C. Johnson, Sr. officiating. The committal service will be 11 AM Monday, Jan. 26th at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Frankfort, KY. Visitation will be 5 – 8 PM Friday, Jan. 23rd at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home, 701 N. Main St., Lawrenceburg, KY and after 10 AM Sat. at the church.

Pallbearers will be Michael Lawson, Wallace Barber, Leo Wilson, Jr., Johathan Walker, Daryn and Aaron Harvey. The honorary bearers will be Melvin, Milton, Ollie, Ronald, and Novis Pleasant, John Burrus, Earnest Guthrie, Marvin Harvey, and Roy Toney.

Memorials are suggested to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in memory of Mrs. Pearl Allen.
