Merrill Smith, 84, husband of Ruby L. Smith, passed away on August 30, 2025, at his residence in Lawrenceburg, KY. Born on January 25, 1941, in Hinkle, KY, he was the son of the late Sawyer Smith and Laura Belle Smith.

Merrill proudly served his country in the United States Army before working as a chef, real estate broker, and car salesman at several dealerships. He enjoyed playing games and cards with family and friends, especially poker, and leaves behind many cherished memories filled with laughter and good times.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, Ruby, he is survived by his sons, Sterling Merrill Smith (Pam) of Huntersville, NC, and Stephen Foster Smith (Rochelle) of Lawrenceburg, KY; his grandchildren, Christian Foster Smith, Corey Hunter Smith, and Molly Danielle Smith; his sister, Wanda Sue Sanders (Ron); his sister-in-law, Mary Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Buford Smith; his sister, Jenople Payne; and his brothers-in-law, Clarence Payne and Don Burton Mills.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Ehr officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12 Noon until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Sterling Smith, Stephen Smith, Christian Smith, Corey Smith, John Mills, Bill Mills, Wesley Ashby, and Mark Cann. Honorary bearers will be Debbie Dotson, Denise McGeorge, Michael Smith, Larry Payne, Gary Payne, and Richard Mills.
