Mary Joyce Doane Atkins, 73, of Lawrenceburg passed away Monday, March 10, 2014 at Heritage Hall Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lawrenceburg. She was the wife of the late Stephen Charles Atkins and was born December 22, 1940 in Jasper, IN to the late Bertram Cecil and Lillian Rose Fehribach Doane.

Mrs. Atkins was a retired counselor in substance abuse treatment for the State of California Dept. of Corrections and a former teacher in Long Beach, CA. She was a 1961 graduate of Indiana State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She is a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceburg and serves on the Church Parish Council and the Social Activities Club. She was a life member of the VFW Post 4075, a member of Fit'n Fun Exercise Group, a former board member of Meals on Wheels, and a retired peace officer with State of California.

Mrs. Atkins' survivors include three children, Scott Atkins of Palmdale, CA and Patrick Atkins of Fresno, CA, and Karen (Adam) Blackburn of Lawrenceburg; a sister, Ruth Ellen Doane, SP of Indianapolis; and three brothers, Mark (Valerie) Doane of SC, Paul (Linda) Doane of MO, and Roger (Judy) Doane of IN.

Funeral mass will be 10:00 am Monday, March 17th at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 120 Gatewood Ave, Lawrenceburg, KY. Fr. John Curtis and Fr. Chris Clay will officiate. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County, KY. Visitation will be 3:30 - 6 pm Sunday at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with a rosary service at 5:30 Sunday.
