Luchanna James Hopkins, 67, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington. Born May 2, 1949 in Frankfort, KY, Luchanna was the daughter of the late John Lucien James and Jean Ann Burks Penny.

A 1969 graduate of Anderson County High School, Luchanna served her country as a SP4 in the U.S. Army and retired from KY State Government as a claims specialist with the Division of Child Support. She was a member and former choir member of the Evergreen Baptist Church and enjoyed crocheting.

Luchanna is survived by two children, Rayna Cecile Bixler and Corey DePree Bixler, both of Lawrenceburg; three grandchildren, Joshua Bixler, Sakyra Minion, and Kyndall Bixler; two sisters, Colleen Harvey (husband Curtis) and Jada Cunningham (husband Wiley), all of Lawrenceburg; two brothers, Stephen James of Lawrenceburg, and William "Clem" Penny of Atlanta; a special friend and caregiver, Shirley Bean; and a host of nieces and nephews including two special nieces, Leanne McClure and Yvonne Harvey, and a special nephew, Dontre Britt.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Evergreen Baptist Church with Rev. Will Howard officiating. Visitation will be held preceding the services from 11 AM – 1 PM Wednesday, also at Evergreen Baptist Church. Burial with military honors will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, Jan. 12th at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County, KY.
