Laura Jean Stuart Weatherford,92, passed away on February 15th at the Willows Senior Living Community in Lexington, Kentucky. Born on March 4, 1931, in Horse Cave, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Marguerite and Grauman Stuart.

Laura was a graduate of Caverna High School and Western Kentucky University and received graduate degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi and Murray State University.

She began her career as an English teacher at Hart County High School in 1958. After moving to Anderson County in 1972, she taught Biology and Advanced Biology until her retirement in 1992.  She enjoyed teaching and was particularly gratified when former students returned to thank her for the excellent preparation she had provided for their higher educational endeavors.

She very much enjoyed her good friends, many of whom she met through teaching at Anderson County High School where she presided over the teacher's break room. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a quick wit, and a generous nature. She loved to have a good time and was a skilled host who made all who passed through her door feel welcome.

Her happiest times were those spent with family.  Whether Christmas, Easter or the 4th of July, her table was filled with family and friends, beautiful flowers she had grown and the food and drink that have become a tradition for her family members to carry on.

She was pre-deceased by her husband Bob Weatherford and brother Joe G. Stuart Jr. She is survived by her children, Lisa Weatherford Ott (Gil) of Oyster Bay, New York, Stuart Weatherford (Rebecca) of Versailles, Kentucky, and Jennifer Riney (Byron) of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; seven grandchildren Gib Ott (Laura), Laura Ott, Zach Allen (Jessica) and Elizabeth Williams (Bryan), Hannah Quick (Brennon) and Hailee Elliott (Matt); and seven great grandchildren, Olive Ott, Ezra Allen, Mylo Ott, Keaton Williams, Layken Williams, Noa Quick and Cyrus Elliott.

A Celebration of Laura's life will be held Friday, March 22, 2024 at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with visitation from 11:30 A.M. - 1:00 P.M., and the memorial service beginning at 1:00 P.M.
