Larry Dewayne Basham, 62, of Lawrenceburg passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2014 at the U.K. Chandler Medical Center. He was the son of the late Kermit and Zella Dalton Basham. Larry is married to Barbara Nichols Basham, his wife of 19 years and they have three daughters, Emily (Kyle) Thacker, Megan Hoskins, and Jenna Hoskins, all of Lawrenceburg; two grandchildren, Brylee and Ellason Thacker; and a sister, Linda (Bruce) Baker of Greensboro, NC; nephew, Mathew Austin of TX; and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Nichols of Lawrenceburg.

Larry was born in 1952, grew up in Edmonson County and graduated from Edmonson County High School in 1970. He attended Western Kentucky University where he received his BS, Masters, and Rank I. Larry's first teaching position was at Park City Elementary School in Barren County from 1974 – 78, where he taught physical education and coached football, basketball and baseball. In 1978, Larry moved to Anderson County High School, and from 1978 – 88, taught physical education, health, driver education and psychology. While at ACHS, Larry coached basketball and baseball. Larry also served as Athletic Director while in his tenure at ACHS.

In 1988, Larry moved to Anderson Middle School to become Assistant Principal. After a 3 year stint, Larry became Principal at AMS, and spent 6 years in that position. In 1997, Larry moved to the central office to serve in the role as Assistant Superintendent until he retired on June 30th of 2009. Larry served a total of 35 years in education, 31 of those being in Anderson County.

Larry was an active member of the Fox Creek Christian Church, where he was an elder and Chairman of the Board. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be 11 am Friday, Sept. 19th at the Fox Creek Christian Church Life Center. The service will be officiated by Bros. Don Wells, Mark Wells and Bo Sayre. Visitation will be 3 – 8 pm Thursday and after 9 am Friday at the Fox Creek Christian Church Life Center.

Larry Barnett, Steve Barriger, Sonny Fentress, Kim Shaw, Steve Burkich, Ray Woodyard, Glen Drury, Bryan Drury, Bill Reinle, David Oney, Bob Sarver, Jimmy Mitchell, Tony Kays, Tommy Houchin, Kent Stevens, Bill Pickett will serve as pallbearers. All the men of Fox Creek, Supt. Shelia Mitchell, Stacey Newton, Edna Bird, Tony White, Alex Saling, Bobby Alford, and Gary Lawson serving as honorary bearers.

In lieu of flowers, Larry suggested contributions be made to the Fox Creek Christian Church Life Center, P.O. Box 32, Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.
