John Coleman Johnson, 87, of Lawrenceburg, husband of 60 years of Mary Lee Arnold Johnson, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Baptist Health Lexington. Born February 11, 1928 in Mt. Sterling, KY, John was the son of the late Edward and Catherine Ratliff Johnson.

A former assistant manager for 30 years with National Linen in Lexington, he also worked 16 years with Smith Kline Beecham in Lexington and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Mt. Sterling Church of God, an avid golfer, and a KY Colonel.

Along with his wife, John is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Lee Carpenter and her husband Jack of Naples, FL and Betty Catherine Cox and her husband Billy of Lake Worth, FL; three grandchildren, Hope (David) Gambrel of London, KY, Kaitlyn Cox of FL, and Wesley (Charla) Cox of NC; six great grandchildren; a brother, Jimmy (Toni) Johnson of CA; two sisters, Mary Bishop of Salvisa and Linda (Jack) Norris of Indianapolis, IN. Including his parents he was preceded in death by a son Robert Carlisle Spencer, a grandson Stephen Lawson; and a sister Dorothy Johnson Greenwade.

Private graveside services will be held Monday, January 25th in Machpelah Cemetery in Mt. Sterling, KY with military honors. No public services will be held.
