John D. Carter, 76, husband of 52 years to Sandy (Lien) Carter of Lawrenceburg, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born June 4, 1942 in Whitley City, KY, John was the son of the late Marion Lee Carter and Dea Marie Stephens Carter.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Lee Carter, Colleen Stephens, Carol Penton, Pat Dawson, and Steve Carter.

John retired from GTE following 35 years of service. He formerly was active with the Lawrenceburg Christian Academy and went on several mission trips with the Lawrenceburg United Methodist Church. He had a love for University of Kentucky basketball and was known as a "Supervisor" at the demolition derbies.

Along with his wife Sandy, John is survived by his four children, Pam Carter of Blue Springs, MO, Tom Carter, Donna Brock, and Robin (Nick) Moore, all of Lawrenceburg; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and a sister, Jane Anne Bishop of Lexington; and two half siblings, William Carter and Sherie Carter of KY.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 4 ^th beginning at 1:00 PM at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home. Bro. Mac Whitnell and Bro. Noal Cotton, Jr. will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 -8 PM.
