Doris Jean Cornish Smith, 75, wife of Larry Smith, passed away March 3, 2024 at her home in Lawrenceburg.  Born in Washington County, KY on December 25, 1948, she was the daughter of Cecil Cornish and Cora Ellen Satterly Cornish.

A 1966 graduate of Anderson High School, Jeanie was a former co-owner, along with her husband Larry, of Smith's Grocery in Alton from 1973–1992.  She also operated the Chowning and Mountjoy Markets in Anderson County.  Later she started and operated Jeanie's Flowers & Gifts for 12 years.  She was a member of the Alton Christian Church, where she served as the church treasurer for several years.

Including Larry, her husband of 53 years, Jeanie is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer (Ronald) Ellis of Lawrenceburg and Barbara Smith of Frankfort; three grandchildren, Jonathan Michael Ellis, Whitney (Jeremy) Hockensmith, and Amanda Williams; four great grandchildren, Jacob, Ellie, Cameron, and Gabrial; two sisters, Betty Baxter of Shepherdsville and Rita (Danny) Sutherland of Lawrenceburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Alton Christian Church with Bro. Noal Cotton, Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow at the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 4 – 8 PM Wednesday at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home and on Thursday from 11 AM until time of service at 2 PM at Alton Christian Church.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ron Ellis, Jonathan Ellis, Lenn Smith, Andrew Smith, Danny Sutherland, Lucas Johnson, David Goodlett, Eric Sherrow, Antonio Grey, and Jonathan Curry.  Honorary bearers will be Shirley Thornberry, Gail Stratton, Judy Gritton, Linda Byrd, Cathy Crace, Rhonda Cotton, and Janie Lacefield.
