Obituary

James Lewis Shryock, 93, husband of Alice Frances Wainscott Shryock, passed away on October 21, 2026, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Frankfort, Kentucky. Born on June 28, 1933, in Frankfort, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Robert Price Shryock and Gertrude Mitchell Shryock.

James spent much of his life working with his hands, building a career as a farmer, auto mechanic, and retiring from Bendix, where he worked in industrial maintenance. He was a member of Ninevah Christian Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon. A naturally gifted mechanic, James had a passion for working on tractors and took pride in his ability to repair and maintain machinery. He also enjoyed collecting farm tools and amassed an extensive collection of axes, hammers, and many other tools over the years. Whether working outdoors, tending to his garden, or taking on a mechanical project, James enjoyed staying busy and finding satisfaction in a job well done.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Earl Shryock, Carl Edward Shryock, Charles Walker Shryock, Richard Matthew Shryock, Harold Douglas Shryock, Norman Gene Shryock; and his sisters, Louise Shryock, Shirley Aileen Downs, and Juanita Ann Edwards.

James is survived by his wife of 73 years, Alice; his children, Ronald Lewis Shryock (Melissa) of Falkville, AL, Timothy James Shryock (Marsha), Suzanne Sayre (Bart), and Suzette Gash (Doug Cox) all of Lawrenceburg, KY; grandchildren, Eric Gash (Michelle), Amy Nix (John), Caleb Sayre, and Kelly Brock (Aaron); brothers, Marvin Shryock and Raymond Gene Shryock; sisters, Mary Cathryn Trent, Jean Doris Honaker, Betty Joyce Adkison, and Virginia Faye Stapleton.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Friday, October 23, 2026, at Lawrenceburg Cemetery, Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, with Terry Cooper officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Gash, Caleb Sayre, John Nix, Aaron Brock, Bart Sayre, and Doug Cox.
