James Warren McMurry, 80, of Lawrenceburg, KY, passed away after a brief illness on July 17, 2025, while at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 4, 1945, in Lexington, KY to the late Clellan and Evelyn Houchin McMurry.  Jim spent his childhood in Lawrenceburg, KY on the family farm.  He married his high school sweetheart, Mary, and then embarked on a career as a computer systems analyst for over 45 years. His work took them to many areas throughout the United States, and they gained numerous friends at every stop.  He was a faithful servant of God; a devoted husband; a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who left a wonderful legacy for his family.  He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and nature lover who enjoyed spending time in God's creation.  He and Mary loved to travel and took many trips with their family and friends throughout the US and abroad.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Mary Sparrow McMurry.  Children, Doug McMurry (Nancy) of Danville, Missy Luttrell of Frankfort, Stephen McMurry (Kelley) of Versailles and adopted son of 9 months Scott Joslin.  His grandchildren, Kellie Jones (Cory), Clellan McMurry (Lane), Russell Luttrell, Jensen McMurry and Travis McMurry and Great granddaughter Caroline Jones.  He is survived by his sister in-law Barb Bryant, brother in-law Allen Sparrow (Beverly), and brother in-law David Sparrow (Michael).  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, a cousin, and a host of great friends.

He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Jim Luttrell and granddaughter Faith Luttrell.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 20th from 5 – 8 PM at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home and after 10 AM until the time of service at 11 AM Monday, July 21st at First Christian Church, 300 S. Main St., Lawrenceburg, KY.  Rev. Jim Wheeler and Donnie Shelton will officiate the service. Burial will follow the service at the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Clellan McMurry, Russell Luttrell, Travis McMurry, Cory Jones, Chris Bryant, Jason Sparrow, and Chad Sparrow. Honorary bearers will be Don Wakefield, John Lauderdale, J.T. Begley, Ken Perry, Steve Schulte, Gary Faulkner, and Warren Houchin.
