James Gillis "BIX" Burrus Bixler, 60, of Lawrenceburg formerly of Shelbyville and Lexington passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at U of L Hospital in Louisville. He was born June 16, 1953 in Woodford Co., KY to Anna Belle Bixler Mendoza of Lawrenceburg and James Gillis Burrus of Lexington.

He was a self employed auto body repairman and owner of Bixler's Body Shop in Lexington. He was a talented musician playing the lead guitar and vocals and enjoyed building furniture.

Including his parents Bix is survived by his children, Katrisha Waldridge, Rashawn Shemir Gillie, Tony White, Carey McGrath, Martarious "Tye" Bixler, Jessica McKinney, and Jason Bixler; aunts and uncle, Linda L. Bixler, Nancy L. Russell, William Earl Bixler; and a host of cousins and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son James Dixon; two step fathers Thomas Jackie Thurman and Frank Woodley; grandparents Alice and Wallace "PeeWee" Bixler, Raymond and Hallie Jones Burrus; aunt and uncle Alice Pearl Bixler and Wallace "Turkey" Bixler.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 14th at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home. Revs. Danny Murphy, George Wilson and J.K. Cunningham will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 – 9 PM Tuesday.
