Horace Keith Lawson, 89, husband of Lou Ella Allen Lawson, departed this life on his birthday, September 13, 2023.  Born in Lexington, KY on September 13, 1934, the son of the late Noah Lawson and Lucille McDowell Lawson.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Keith Houston Lawson and siblings, Henry Waters, Fannie Woods, and Mary Frances Alcorn.

A graduate of Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in Lexington, he served his country in the U.S. Army.  Horace was well known for working as a meat butcher and singing beloved gospel hymns while he worked.  Most recently worked as a meat specialist at Kroger in Lawrenceburg. Previously he worked for Rue's and Hill's Groceries in Lexington, Herfman's in Nicholasville, and Well's Grocery, IGA, and Kroger in Lawrenceburg.  Horace was a member of Main Street Baptist Church in Lexington, where he served as Deacon, sang in the choir, a Sunday school teacher, and as the assistant chairman of the Deacon's Ministry in 1988 during the transition period between Pastor Baker and Elder Ward.  He also served as Ex Officio member of the Pastor Search Committee in 1988 and 1989.

Including Lou Ella, his wife of 57 years, he is survived by his children, Paul Wayne Lawson (wife Crystal) of Lawrenceburg, Michael Eugene Allen Lawson (wife Carlos) of Lexington, and Pamela Ann Lawson Black of Lawrenceburg; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Suzanne Emerson (husband Pete) of Lexington; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Lawson; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday, Sept.18th at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home and after 11 AM Tuesday, Sept. 19th until the time of service at 12:00 noon at Main Street Baptist Church, 582 W. Main St., Lexington, KY.  The Homegoing Service will be conducted at 12:00 noon Tuesday also at the church with Rev. Victor G. Sholar officiating.

Burial with military honors will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Frankfort, KY.

Mr. Lawson's grandsons will serve as pallbearers and the Deacons of Main Street Baptist Church will serve as honorary bearers.
