Helen Stevens Funeral Service Broadcast

Helen Virginia Stinnett Stevens, 98, wife of the late Melvin Leon Stevens, passed away September 9, 2024 at Baptist Health Lexington.  Born in Anderson County, KY on August 31, 1926, Helen was the daughter of the late Forrest Truman Stinnett and Elizabeth Mae Sweasy Stinnett.

A homemaker, Helen was a bookkeeper at the former Van Buren State Bank until it's closing.  At the time of her passing, she was the oldest living member of the Van Buren Church of Christ.  Helen enjoyed working word finds, needle point, and eating candy and cookies.  She loved being a mother to her children and Little Granny to her grandchildren and great granddaughter.

She is survived by her three children, Kent (wife Deborah) Stevens of Lawrenceburg, Janet Stevens (husband Mark Cleveland) of Perry Park, KY, and Bruce Stevens (wife Leesa) of Lawrenceburg; three grandchildren, Christopher Stevens, Katie (Shawn) Hutton, and Ellen Stevens; a great granddaughter, Harper Kate Hutton; three sisters, Shirley Hume, Betty (Larry) Goodlett, and Karen (Jim) Ferency; two brothers, Dean (Karen) Stinnett and Keith (Beverly) Stinnett, both of Taylorsville; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband and parents, Helen was preceded in death by her sister, Emma Jean Stevens and her husband Ed, and Shirley's husband Melvin Hume.

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with her son Kent Stevens and Matt Ashby officiating.  Burial will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, KY.  Visitation will be 3 – 8 PM Monday and after 11 am until time of service at 1 pm Tuesday.

Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Stevens, Rickey Stevens, Forrest Stevens, Ronnie Stevens, Brent Stevens, Hugh Breeden, Terry Breeden, Barry Hume and Duane Hume.  Mrs. Stevens' nieces will serve as honorary bearers.

Memorials in memory of Helen Stevens are suggested to one's favorite charity.
