Gilbert Baxter, 92, of Lawrenceburg, husband of the late Juanita Poulter Baxter, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center. Born October 14, 1923 in Louisville, KY, he was the son of the late James William Baxter and Sallie McMurray Baxter (James) Lynn. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Sara Marie "Sue" Edwards.

Mr. Baxter served 32 years with the Kentucky State Police, retiring in 1978 as a Lieutenant with the Dept. of Inspections. During his years, Lt. Baxter served as post commander in Frankfort, Morehead, and Lebanon. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and received an Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement from the University of Louisville. He was an avid fisherman, fishing waters from Alaska to Florida, the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and numerous lakes and rivers in the United States.

Mr. Baxter is survived by a son, Glenn M. Baxter of Moore Haven, FL, five grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and his sisters-in-law and loving caretakers, Jane Chisholm, Rayma Carter, Laurene Gaunce, and Nina Poulter.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Friday, July 29th at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 – 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
