George "Zeke" Inman, Jr., 93, husband of the late Cora Durr Inman, passed away Friday, October 27, 2017 at Jewish Hospital Downtown in Louisville, KY. Born September 3, 1924 in Anderson County, KY, George was the son of the late George and Elizabeth Montgomery Inman.

Zeke is survived by his daughters, Alice Inman (Dave Zimmerman) of Louisville and Jody Inman (Tim) Perry of Lawrenceburg; his three grandsons, Jared Denney of Elizabethtown, Jordan Denney of Lawrenceburg, and John Denney of Lexington; two great grandchildren, Rylee Brooke and Camden James; and a nephew, Tarry Vaughn. Along with his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary (Carl) Vaughn and Hazel Ward, and a nephew, Gary Vaughn.

Zeke entered the U.S. Navy in August 1943, serving during W.W. II. He served as a Plank Owner on the USS McGowan DD678.  He boarded the newly commissioned ship in New York, sailed down the Atlantic, through the Panama Canal and into the Pacific.  The first mission in Company with a large task force was the invasion of Saipan in the Mariana's.  They arrived off the coast of Guam on July 19, 1944, taking part in the screening invasion forces there.  The McGowan then headed north for Tinian to aid in capture and occupation of that stronghold.  Other Campaigns included the invasion of Palau, the Philippine Campaign and assisted in launching a torpedo against the Japanese battleship FUSO in the battle of the Surigo Strait in 1944, and the Battle of Iwo Jima and Okinawa in the spring of 1945.

He was awarded the Victory Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal (8 Stars) and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon (2 Stars).

After being honorably discharged in 1946, he remained in the reserves. He changed to the SeaBees reserve and retired with the rate of Senior Chief Petty Officer in September 1984.  While serving in the SeaBee Reserves he was chosen National SeaBee of the Year.  The presentation of this award was made in Watertown, NY in 1975.

Zeke spent his entire working career as a truck driver for Wild Turkey Distillery and was a member of the First Christian Church and the Anderson Masonic Lodge #90.

Masonic Rites and funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 30 ^th beginning at 7:00 PM at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Dr. Jeff Eaton officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 – 7 PM on Monday.  Graveside services with military honors will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 31 ^st beginning at 10 AM at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Jessamine County, KY.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Perry, Jordan, Jared, and John Denney, Jody Hughes, and Dickie Nevins. Honorary bearers will be Phil Swift and J.T. Bryant, III.
