Ethel Hanna Memorial Service Broadcast

Our loving and devoted mother, Ethel Virginia Peterson Hanna, age 77, wife of the late Marcus Edward Hanna, went home to her Lord and Savior on October 10, 2024. She passed away peacefully at Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington, KY, after a difficult journey with ALS. She was born September 19, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Raymond Peterson and Helen Murray Peterson.

Ethel attended Allegheny Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania and graduated in 1968. She then served in the Army from December 31, 1968 to March 15, 1973 and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant.

She continued her nursing career at Cardinal Hill and then the VA Hospital where she retired after 36 years. She faithfully served our veterans as a nurse manager for the Alzheimer's unit. Ethel organized many Christmas parties for the VA employees and their children and grandchildren. She was an active member of The Employee Association (TEA) where she organized many events. She also served on the Bob Brown House board.

Ethel was a faithful member at First Baptist Church of Lawrenceburg. She was a member of the Sunshine Sunday School Class and also volunteered for VBS and served on several mission trips.

Our mother was a good friend to many and was blessed with many friends. She loved to love on people, feed the homeless veterans, grocery shop for the shut-ins and elderly, visit people in the hospital, and share a meal at her table for Thanksgiving and Christmas with the lonely.

Ethel has been a member of NARFE Chapter 97 since October 6, 2005. She first served as Treasurer and then 2nd Vice President until December 2023. She also was chair of the chapter Walk to End Alzheimer's team. She served in a number of other roles (membership drives, community service activities, Budget committee). She was a pillar in NARFE and recruited many of her friends.

Ethel was the beloved mother of Heather Terry (husband Marty) of Lawrenceburg, KY and Shawn Hanna of Lexington, KY. She was the proud grandmother of Marcus Hanna, Hanna McElfresh (husband Chase) and Lydia Terry.

Along with her loving and devoted husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Brian Hanna, and her Aunt Ethel.

Please join us for a memorial service in memory of Ethel on Saturday, October 19th at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, located at 111 North Main Street, Lawrenceburg, KY, with Dr. Bob Ehr officiating. Visitation will take place on Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the church. A committal service with full military honors for Ethel will occur at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 21st at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County, KY.
