Duard "Shorty" Smith, 100, of Lawrenceburg, husband of the late Bessie Mae Snow Smith, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Lawrenceburg. Born November 18, 1915 in Frankfort, KY, Shorty was the son of the late George Gregory Smith and Jennie Morton Wilson.

Shorty previously worked as a carpenter and a farmer and enjoyed spending time fishing and hunting with his sons and family. He was a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church in Frankfort and attended the Lawrenceburg Community Baptist Church.

Shorty is survived by three sons, Paul R. Smith and wife Patty of Frankfort, Danny Wayne Smith and wife Jean of Bowling Green, and Gayle W. Smith and wife Tina of Lawrenceburg; three daughters-in-law, Brenda Smith, Nita Smith and Karen Smith; 12 grandchildren, Paula Smith, Debbie Agee, Becky Tankersley, Sharron Burton, Andy Smith, Joseph Smith, Jeremy Smith, Chris Smith, Stephen Smith, Heather Johnson, Kimberly Smith, and Amy Smith; 22 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his wife and parents, Shorty was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald G. Smith and Dayle Thomas Smith, and a daughter Joann Smith, a daughter-in-law Sandy Smith, a great grandson Jason Delong, and twelve brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 27th at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Broughton and Bro. George Dye officiating. Burial will follow in the Hebron Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 – 8 PM Tuesday.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy, Joseph, Andy, and Stephen Smith, Joey Burton, and Ace Agee. Serving as honorary bearers will be Chris Smith, Keith Johnson, Wallace Cardwell, Donald Hedden, Mike Tankersley, and Mike Schell.
