David Lee "Rudy" Rucker died peacefully on Feb 27, 2024. The youngest of 6 children, he was raised on a farm in rural Anderson county. He was spoiled, doted on, and teased mercilessly by his siblings for being the only child born in a hospital.  He was born July 10, 1954 to Shela Carlton Rucker and Marion Rucker. He is survived by his beloved sister, Phyllis Rucker Pittman. He is predeceased by his parents and his brothers: Eldon Rucker, Beryl Rucker, Gale Rucker and Hugh Allen Rucker.

His mother taught him how to paint, wallpaper, and upholster furniture. He credited his craftsmen skills to her. David was a skilled painter and carpenter but spent most of his career working in state government where he honed his skills for managing people and conflict.

David had a passion for UK basketball, beach vacations, spending time with his grandsons, playing fierce games of Rook, solving crossword puzzles, stargazing, keeping his yard well-maintained, and hosting an epic annual 4th of July/Birthday party for Marcy.

David is survived by his greatest love of 41 years, Marcella "Marcy" Feland Rucker; his daughters, Lucy (Nick) Nelson, Sally (Teddy Mims) Rucker; and his grandsons, Jack Robert Nelson and Owen David Nelson.

He was a man with famously laid-back composure, a fierce love for his family and friends and a knack for storytelling; mainly because he was such a good listener. Luckily, his friends and family never had to guess how he felt about them. He once filled out a notebook about his life upon the urging of his daughters. When asked about his proudest moments in life he said "lifelong marriage to a wonderful woman, rearing two beautiful daughters, and my GRANDSONS"

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home from 4 P.M. until 7 P.M.
