Rev. David Ray Cornish, 75, of Lawrenceburg, husband of 41 years of Carol Martin Cornish, passed away Friday, April 15, 2016 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center. Born December 6, 1940 in Mercer County, KY, David was the son of the late Erastus Lee and Madie Opal Cornish.

David was a 1958 graduate of Willisburg High School and preached his first sermon on Easter night of 1958 at Antioch Christian Church. That summer he preached 3 weeks at Fairview Christian Church and in September began attending Lexington Christian Bible College. During the summers of 1958–59 he preached in surrounding counties and at the age of 19 on February 14, 1960 preached his first trial sermon at Berea Christian Church, Harrodsburg, KY. In 1961 became the full time minister at Choatsville Christian Church, Frankfort, KY. From 1963–72 he served at the Grapevine Christian Church, Harrodsburg, KY and 1973–84 at Brush Creek Christian Church, Liberty, KY. In 1982 he and his family became members of Anderson Christian Church where his children were baptized and during that year he served as interim pastor for Nelson Christian Church. In November 1989 thru December 26, 2010 served as minister at Turnersville Christian Church, Stanford, KY until retiring due to health issues and in January 2011 he started serving the Lord at Alton Christian Church. David also worked through the years as a brick layer and as a supervisor for Edward's Sausage in Lawrenceburg.

Along with his wife Carol, he is survived by four children, David Ray (Shauna) Cornish, Jr. of Lexington, William Scott (Gretchen) Cornish of Willisburg, Christopher Dewayne (Denise) Cornish of Danville and Dala Renee Cornish of Lawrenceburg; five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Austin, and Jase Cornish, D.J. and Christian Bierly; and a sister, Shirley (Clayton) Ruble of Lawrenceburg. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Lee Cornish.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Bro. Noal Cotton, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 – 8 PM Monday.

Serving as pallbearers will be Donnie Godby, Keith Gillespie, Stanley Baxter, Jerry Gritton, Ira Crace, Bruce Willard, David Perkins, and Gary Zeller. Serving as honorary bearers will be Lonnie Cornish, C.W., Billy, and Bobby Grider.
