Daryl Conrade Crawford, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, October 09, 2024. Mr. Crawford was born on May 17, 1946, in Salvisa, KY. His late parents, Stanley "Pappy" Crawford and Margaret Yeager Crawford are both members of families who have been traced to medieval estates in Scotland and Germany, respectively. Mr. Crawford, along with his sister Sally Jo, initiated a research project that analyzed the history of the Crawford Clan and the Yeager (née, Jager) Family migrations to the Bluegrass State, The genealogical research details his families' centuries long journey from the shores of Jamestown, Virginia to Kentucky establishing various homesteads along the way. Like so many others in his generation, Daryl and the brothers Crawford Daryl already had deep roots in Kentucky where they worked and lived on various farms. Daryl bled blue and never forgot where he came from and that, friends, is how he knew of our family's heritage that is so deeply woven into the fabric of this beautiful State.

Daryl was an ambitious and formidable agent within the Commonwealth's Public Protection Cabinet: Department of Alcohol Beverage Control. His kids learned the old ways and cultures that permeated the still making traditions of Southeastern Kentucky and Appalachia. He regaled his sons with grandiose stories about his frequent stops and investigations in Hazard, KY. His yarns included rattlesnakes, moonshiners, bootleggers, and fields upon fields of marijuana plants. It was always super exciting to hear his work stories. One must be reminded that at this the time, "The Dukes of Hazzard" was in its hayday, so we thought maybe he was chasin' them Duke boys. Mr. Crawford had that undercover agent look, air, and attire, but he also had an Andy Griffith side that sometimes showed up on the weekends. While working full-time at the ABC and providing for his family, Mr. Crawford earned a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal justice from the Kentucky State University. Mr. Crawford then started his own insurance agency and ultimately retired from General Cable in Lawrenceburg. Daryl was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and never found a crappie he did not like. Hear, hear Okeechobee friends!

He was a quail aficionado and cultivated and researched the strategical nuances of Quail hunting. Daryl and his brother Jerry Crawford made a trip an annual tradition that will be forever etched into our memories. The first few trips to Kansas, Pappy went along which displayed their love for one another and for this Crawford family. It forces us to recognize our unbreakable bonds and continued support for each other as live our lives with Grace and Humility. Jeremy Kays was a strict adherent to the mantra, "Blood is thicker than water," it is the epitome of the Crawford Clan.

In his spare time, Daryl was a passionate golfer, for which he has traded millions of golf clubs and iron sets to continuously improve his game. A new slight hook equaled a new driver. Daryl was also a FAN of all things UK athletics and the Toledo Rockets. He definitely bled BLUE! He was also a member of First Christian Church.

Daryl is survived by his wife Judith Gail Hanks Crawford and two sons, Chris Conrade Crawford and Jon Jared Crawford. He has two grandchildren Megan Christine Crawford (Roger) Smith and Carson Conrade Crawford whom he absolutely adored and loved unconditionally from Day 1. Four Brothers, Lyle Sharp, Billy Crawford (Johanna), Jerry Crawford (Sallie), Mitch Crawford (Robin Cook); Two sisters, Sally Jo Denney (Jim), Susan Johnson (Rod); a brother-in-law, John Hanks (Connie); a Sister-in-law, Linda Crawford, and many nieces and nephews. Megan and Carson were truly the joy of his life. Well that is until his two great-grandchildren, Camden Conrade Crawford, and Cruz Smith came along. Not a day went by without him giggling and telling the latest and greatest stories about Cam or Cruz. They always lifted him up!

Daryl was preceded in death by a brother, Rick Crawford.

A public graveside service will take place at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Sand Spring Cemetery, 1616 Harrodsburg Rd., Lawrenceburg, KY.
