Daphne Betty Clarke Bailey Michaels passed away on November 7, 2023. Daphne was born in Chrishall, England on February 18, 1924, to Stanley and Bessie (Banks) Clarke. She met her husband, Arthur Bailey, at an NCO dance in England, near Chrishall. They were married in 1943, and Arthur was sent to France to continue fighting in WW II. In 1947, Daphne and their son, John Sr., came to America on the Queen
Mary to reunite with Arthur in Medina, Ohio, and was featured in the local paper as the first WW II war bride to the area. For the next 23 years, they lived and traveled all over the world while Arthur served in the Army.

Daphne was an elegant woman with a great sense of style, poise and humor (British humor, that is!). She had a lengthy career as an interior decorator. She was an amazing cook, avid gardener and expert seamstress. She loved to entertain and host, and enjoyed tea time all day, every day! She was an elaborate story teller, entertaining her grandchildren and later her great grandchildren for hours. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and quilting. She made much of her own clothing, as well as clothing for her family. All made with love. She reupholstered furniture, made drapes and beautifully embroidered textiles. She played the piano by ear and loved listening to classical music. She was so talented and Daphne was a born again Christian and spent countless hours reading and studying her Bible. She was a longtime member of Ashland Avenue Baptist Church and Heritage Baptist Church in Lexington, Ky, and Sand Spring Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg, Ky. She had a special love for the ladies of her Sunday School classes and treasured their friendships.

Daphne is survived by her only child, whom she adored, her son, John Bailey, Sr. (Ada); three grandchildren, John Bailey, Jr. (Debbie), Rebecca Osbourn (Chuck) and Julia Bailey; eight great grand children, Sarah York (Hagan), John Bailey III (Allyson), Madison McGoldrick (Ben), Alyssa Jones (Zachary), Bailey Osbourn, Lindsay Egbert (Austin), Chase Osbourn II, and Noah Hornsby (Sarah); and eleven great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Rosslyn Datchler, and one brother, Michael Clarke (Doreen) and many nieces and nephews, all in England.

The family is having a private celebration of life. No public services are scheduled.
