On Thursday, October 6, 2022 Nancy Catherine Wheat Shelton, 73, loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, was called to her Heavenly home. Born March 24, 1949 in Fayette County, KY, Catherine was the daughter of the late Major Witherspoon Wheat and Mildred Ethel Burns Wheat. She was a lifelong resident of Lawrenceburg and grew up on Wildcat Road. Catherine was a 1967 graduate of Anderson County High School.

On August 26, 1967 she married the love of her life John Thomas Shelton, son of late Hobert T. Shelton and Ethel Mae Brown Shelton. J.T. and Catherine just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

In 1983 she received her BS Degree in Criminal Justice from Kentucky State University with a Summa Cum Laude 4.0 GPA, the Presidential Award, along with many other academic honors all while raising 3 kids.  She was a former Social Worker for 8 years with the Commonwealth of Kentucky and served as the Family Service Director with Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home for several years.  She was a former member of Sand Spring Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg and a current member of The River of Life Community Church in Springfield, KY where her oldest son Troy is the Pastor. At the River, Catherine discipled so many people through teaching small groups and leading the prayer team over the past 24 years.

Including J.T., her husband of 55 years, she is survived by her children, Troy Douglas (Sherri) Shelton of Springfield, Angela Christine Shelton (Hank) Norton of Vernon, CT, and Justin Travis (Mary) Shelton of Lawrenceburg; eight grandchildren, Kevin Blake Norton, Brandon Kirk Norton, William Paul Shelton, Justin Thomas (Bailey) Shelton, Michael Douglas (Makayla) Shelton, Christopher Seth Shelton, Jacob Shelton and Taylor Shelton; a great grandchild, Lora Grace Shelton and a great grandchild on the way, David River Shelton; and two brothers, Major Witherspoon Wheat, Jr. of Peewee Valley, KY and William Kenneth (Judy) Wheat of Louisville, KY.  She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law Sherry Wheat.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home, 701 N. Main St., Lawrenceburg, KY and from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, Oct. 9th followed by the service at 3:00 PM Sunday at the River of Life Church, 1250 Highway 555, Springfield, KY.  A family burial will be Monday at the Sand Spring Cemetery in Lawrenceburg, KY.

Catherine's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary bearers will be the members of the River of Life Prayer Team consisting of Lora Justice, Lois Bishop, Donna Spaulding, Katie Cooper, Janice Bartley, Susan Newton, Virginia Mattingly, Kay Armstrong, Luanne Spaulding, and Kelly Downs.
