Bobby Lyens Thornberry, 81, husband of Shirley Ann Hyatt Thornberry, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Baptist Health Lexington. Born August 29, 1935 in Anderson County, Bobby was the son of the late John Franklin Thornberry and Anna Belle Ward Thornberry.

Bobby proudly served his country during the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He retired following 29½ years as an employee with Wild Turkey Distillery. More importantly Bobby served his Savior as a member and elder of the Alton Christian Church. He also served his community by serving as Commander of the American Legion Post #34, Area "B" Vice Commander for the State of KY, current American Legion Department of KY Chaplain, Past District Commander for 7 years, a member of Frankfort Post #40 and #8, a member of the Alton Ruritan Club, and a former March of Dimes volunteer.

Along with his wife Shirley, Bobby is survived by three step-sons, James Dudley (Minnie) Davenport and Luther Allen (Ann) Davenport, both of Lawrenceburg, and Barry (Barbara) Estes of Lexington; 12 grandchildren, Hope Durr, Jimmy Dean (Ashley) Durr, Dana (Alan) Robinson, Tiffany Davenport, Heather Faye Davenport, Allen Davenport, Doran Kurtis (Chelsea) Davenport, Haven and Hailey Davenport, Jackie (Shane) Cummins, Jodi (Lane) Hume, and Joseph Adams; numerous great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Janie Thornberry.

He was predeceased by a great granddaughter, Brook Durr, his sisters, Mary McDonald, Gladys Payne, and Osie Bowman, and his brothers, John Lewis, Jack, Leon, and James Thornberry.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home led by Bro. Noal Cotton, Jr. Burial with military honors will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 – 8 PM Wednesday and after 8 AM Thursday at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home.

Bobby's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.  Members of the American Legion Post #34 Family will serve as honorary bearers.
