Obituary

Billy Young, 78, of Martinsville, IN formerly of Lawrenceburg, passed away Monday, January 28, 2019 after a short illness at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Shellie Young, in Martinsville, IN.

Born November 23, 1940 in Anderson County, KY, Billy, was the son of Charles Wesley Young and Onie Daniel Hahn Young. Along with his parents, Billy was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kallie Grace Young and seven siblings, Lulie Buntain, Frances Riley, John Young, Betty Mattingly, Carl Young, Jimmy Young, and his twin Bobby Young.

Billy is survived by his sons, Jason S. Young and his wife Shellie of Martinsville, IN and Chris Kyle Young and his wife Jaclyn of Land O'Lakes, FL; five grandchildren, Dalton, Grace, Carissa, Cooper Ryan, and Crosby Matthew; two great grandchildren, Jordan and Alana; a sister, Peggy Terrell and her husband Bobby of Chaplin, KY; and two sisters-in-law, Wilanna Young and Judy Young Link, both of Lawrenceburg.

A 1958 graduate of Anderson County High School, Billy served his country in the U.S. Navy discharging in 1962. He worked for the Lawrenceburg Police Department until joining the Kentucky State Police on January 26, 1966.  He served as a Trooper, Detective and worked Executive Security for Governor Wallace G. Wilkinson's administration.  Billy was selected by Muhammad Ali for his personal security during multiple Kentucky Derby's. He retired from KSP on August 31, 1991.  Following retirement he worked for the Anderson County Sheriff's Department three times under sheriffs Harold Cornish, Jim Evans and Troy Young.  Billy was a member of the American Legion and the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club.  He enjoyed watching many sports, especially University of Kentucky Basketball.  He loved riding his Can-Am Spyder, fishing, and spending time with his family and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 4th from 11 AM until the time of service at 2 PM at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with KSP Chaplain David Norris and Retired Trooper John Sparks officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery with honors provided by the Kentucky State Police Honor Guard.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Young, Chris Young, Dalton Young, Cooper Young, Tony Young, Troy Young, Kelly Young, Scotty Terrell and Adam Ritchie.
